Blue Knights TX XX Weekday Ride 11-19-08

Today, Wednesday, 11-19-08, the Blue Knights TX XX had its monthly weekday ride. Today we took a ride down to The Biker Roadhouse in Saint Jo Texas, followed by lunch at The Smokehouse in Lindsay Texas. The total mileage there and back to Wichita Falls Texas was at 176.8 miles. Janice even went and had a good time. Scroll down for today's ride and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE.

Our jumping off point today was the Shell gas station at US 287 & Windthorst Road in Wichita Falls Texas. We met there at 10:30 a.m. and went KSU at 10:45 a.m. Weather was cloudless, 77 degrees and a light wind out of the SE. Here left to right are: Kenny, Rodney, Vicki (Rodney's wife) and Janice (my wife).

Here are Kenny, Rodney, Vicki & me while we wait for David & Brenda to arrive.

David & Brenda arrived and although I was going to lead today, both David and Rodney are two of our Chapter's Road Captain's. Rodney had never been to The Biker Roadhouse and David had, so I let David Road Captain this ride and I got to ride in the middle of the group, where I prefer. This is Kenny Southbound on US 287.

Here is another of Kenny Southbound on US 287

Here are David and Brenda Southbound on US 287. Brenda has been a friend of Janice & me for many years. Plus she is a former coworker of mine, David, Kenny & Rodney

Here is Rodney Southbound on US 287. We did not know it at the time, but Rodney was having problems with his left leg and was in a lot of pain.

Here is Vicki smiling and waving at Janice as she take the picture of Vicki rolling South on US 287. Janice has become pretty good friends with Vicki over the past year..

And here is Janice, riding on the back of Ms Clone and having a good time. That is Rodney & Vicki behind us.

Here are David & Brenda in the lead with Kenny behind them and in front of us.

I take a picture of Rodney & Vicki behind us as we roll South on US 287

We got off of US 287 and go East on Us 82. Again, this is David & Brenda in the lead and Kenny

Rodney and Vicki continue East on US 82 behind us..

We pulled over in Nocona Texas so David could work out a cramp and Rodney could ingest some meds. This is, left to right: Rodney & Vicki, Kenny, Janice, David & Brenda..

Lined up prior to getting back on US 82, are: Kenny, Janice, Rodney, David & Brenda

Me, Janice, Rodney, David & Brenda. We stayed there a little bit until the meds started to work on Rodney. We knew when it was time to go cause Rodney started smiling again.

Kenny, Janice & the bikes in Nocona Texas

Here is Rodney still in pain. It shows on his face...

Vicki in Nocona Texas. She is concerned about Rodney and it showed on her face.

Here is Brenda..Can't you just feel the love she has for me?..At least she isn't giving me the "numba 1" sign that I usually get from my other friends...

Here I am as Janice takes a picture of her master...

Here is Janice as we get ready to head out.. This is Janice's 3rd ride of any distance with us. Janice works all the time, but took today off for today's ride. Plus, she is not really comfortable on motorcycles because she thinks they are very dangerous. She, most possibly, is the only sane one with us today, based on that logic.

Here is the illustrious David..He always has fun on these Chapter rides as well as all the other impromptu rides that we do...

Here is Kenny, another former co-worker of ours. He worked most of the time when we had our previous rides, but says he will try to ride with us more often..He is a great guy and a lot of fun to be around

Here is Brenda, happy & smiling..Brenda has these electrical implant thingies.......probably why she is smiling... :-) "Gothcha!!!"

What's a ride without the picture of the town water tower, American flag & Texas flag? And they are the two GREATEST flags in the world, I might add.

At last we arrive at The Biker Roadhouse in Saint Jo Texas. The Biker Roadhouse is a motorcycle apparel & accessory business that is biker owned & biker operated and we always enjoy riding there, making purchases and visiting with Toxie & Vanese (the owners). They sell good, used Harley's inside too!! For more info on The Biker Roadhouse, click on their link: http://www.bikerroadhouse.com/

The ladies of today's ride: Janice, Vicki & Brenda in front of The Biker Roadhouse in Saint Jo, Texas

Here is Vicki on her Harley

Here is Janice on our Vulcan, Ms. Clone..

While we were there, one of Toxie's friends rode up on this new Triumph 900 Bonneville.

The Biker Roadhouse Building is for sale. See the above link to the business and give Toxie a call if interested. The building & the business is on the Town Square and is well known throughout the region

Toxie had come outside and was looking at the Triumph and he was kind enough to stop for a picture before returning inside to work. If you are ever in the Saint Jo area, stop in & check out The Biker Roadhouse and say hi to Vanese & Toxie. They are both great folks and will make your visit an enjoyable one.

The four of us guys on the ride: David (Road Captain), Kenny (new member), Rodney (Road Captain) and me (President)

We left The Biker Roadhouse in Saint Jo, got back on East US 82 and headed to The Smokehouse in Lindsay Texas for lunch. This is Kenny, Rodney & Vicki out in front of Janice & I. David & Brenda are out front of them, blocked from view by Rodney..

You can see all four in this view. From front to back: David & Brenda, Kenny, Rodney and Vicki. If ya click on the picture you can see them better.

We get to Lindsay Texas and here inside The Smokehouse BBQ Restaurant are Kenny, Brenda & David..

On the other side of the table are: Janice, Vicki and Rodney

Here is our waitress, Deborah, who could give as well as take all that David could put on her. One of the funniest thing said was by her to David when she said she wanted to buy some glue to seal his lips together...David took it in stride. We all had a good time there, including Deborah.

Out in the parking lot of The Smokehouse, Kenny shows off his new vest he bought at The Biker Roadhouse.

The bikes in the parking lot of The Smokehouse in Lindsay Texas

Brenda, David, Kenny, Janice, Vicki and Rodney in the parking lot prior to us leaving Lindsay & heading back to Wichita Falls Texas

Brenda & David, me & Janice and Vicki & Rodney in the parking lot of The Smokehouse in Lindsay Texas

Kenny mentioned that he needed some bling for his new vest. Here I am presenting Kenny with his first bling for his vest: a small gold replica of the badge we all used to wear.

We all left Lindsay Texas and flew low back to Wichita Falls as Janice had to be at a massage appointment at 5:30 p.m. We got back at a little after 5 p.m. David & Brenda came in the house for a minute and David sat on the loveseat and his aged bones stiffened in place and and I think we heard a snore. Brenda, silently crept over behind David and verified the stangulation sounds we were hearing, were indeed, snores from the old fart..
This will conclude this post. We all had a good time, Rodney even moreso after the meds kicked in. We always have fun with David and he isn't an old man. He is four months older than me, so we know he is really a youngster..Because I am...I look forward to our next ride and to where ever that takes us and around here, you never know...Scroll down for more rides, events and posts and remember to click on the "older posts" link at the bottom of EACH page for more posts back to January 08. Until next ride & post, ya'll be careful out there, RIDE SAFE and keep the rubber on the road...........JOHN

Blue Knights TX XX Weekend Ride 11-15-08

Today, Saturday, 11-15-08, was our scheduled Blue Knights TX XX weekend ride to Haskell Texas, which is about 100 miles Southwest of Wichita Falls Texas. We woke up to 35 mph winds out of the NNW and temperatures in the low 40's which put the windchill in the 30's. At the meeting point just West of Wichita Falls, we decided that due to the weather and with only five of us showing up, that we would go 1/2 way to Haskell and decide in Seymour Texas whether to go on to Haskell or stop & eat at the Rock Inn there in Seymour..So, scroll on down and meet the hearty souls who showed up for the ride and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE..

This is Jeremy and his girlfriend, Vicky. Vicky is from London England and just flew in a few days ago.. Vicky was kinda chilled at this point..
This is Vicki, Vicky and Rodney. Vicki is Rodney's wife and Rodney is the Road Captain for today's ride.

We depart from the meeting point and head out Westbound on US 82 towards Seymour Texas. That is Rodney in the lead, followed by Vicki on the white Harley, then Jeremy & Vicky on his black Harley & I was bringing up the rear..

We continue Westbound on US 82 and we were being blown all over the road by that nasty crosswind. Plus, I might add, it was a little cold with that North wind..

I pulled up along side of Jeremy and Vicky and here they are rolling West on the highway.

We got to Seymour Texas and both girls were frozen and the other three of us were a little chilled to the bone. We opted to eat at the Rock Inn in Seymour Texas so as not to make the ride too miserable for the girls. Poor Vicky was visibly shaking inside the restaurant. So I think we made the right decision. This is Vicky & Jeremy fixin' to order..

Vicki & Rodney, a.k.a. Buzz inside the Rock Inn. Needless to say, we appreciated the warmth of the interior..

Vicky & Jeremy strike a pose prior to ordering..

After lunch, it was back to the bikes and the return trip to Wichita Falls. It felt like the temperature had dropped a little on the way back. Here are Vicky & Jeremy just before leaving the Rock Inn parking lot..

Vicky & Jeremy in the Parking lot of the Rock Inn, Seymour Texas

This is Rodney in the parking lot reacting to my asking if we could stop at the DQ in Holliday Texas on the way back for an ice cream..

Here is Vicki & Vicky bracing themselves for the crosswind heading back. The crosswind, by the way, was the result of a cold front blowing in from the North..

Jeremy & Rodney fixing to head back East.

Me & Jeremy and you can see I did not dress for the weather. Just a long sleeve shirt under that sweatshirt was all I wore, plus my vest. Live & learn...

Here are the 4 bikes in the parking lot of the Rock Inn prior to our departure. Rodney's Harley, Vicki's Harley, My Vulcan (Ms Clone) and Jeremy's Harley.

We made it back to Wichita Falls with no problems and we did not stop for an ice cream. But we did go to Rodney & Vicki's to warm up and have a drink..Here are Rodney, Vicky, Vicki & Jeremy and that is the last picture from today and will conclude this post.
Even though the weather wasn't the greatest and only the 5 of us showed up, we still had a good time and anytime I can ride with friends, is a good time. I look forward to our Wednesday ride on the 19th. We'll see who shows up for the weekday run. Scroll down for more rides, events and posts and don't forget to click on the "older posts" link at the bottom of EACH page for more posts back to January 08. Until the next ride & post, ya'll be careful out there, ride safe, stay warm and keep the rubber on the road...........JOHN

Retirees First then the Harley's 11-13-08

Thursday,11-13-08, we had our usual retiree's breakfast in a town West of here. Then David & I went out to the Harley shop to get with Greg on some flyers for the Toy Run we are helping out with. We then went to Eddie Hill's Fun Cycles to give Trey, the GM, a flyer to post. Both Eddie Hill's Fun Cycles & Red River Harley Davidson are major sponsors of this run. And, as it is that time of year, I will post the info on the area toy runs in case you are in the Wichita Falls Texas area on the dates they are having them, and you can consider yourself invited to join us on these very worthwhile endeavors. So, without further ado, scroll down and check out today's events and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE!!

At the breakfasts, we never know who is going to show up. There may be 20 or there may be 6, but everyone of them are funny and could be comedians.. This is Roy Don & Norman.

That is Herman with the coffee cup & ya'll know David. Herman is one of the jumpiest guys I know. Sneak up behind him and poke him and he goes nuts...

This is Dale who is one of the soon to be retired guys we worked with. Dale is hilarious..
.

This is Tolana one of our waitresses. The girls who work at the cafe really catch a lot of flak from us but are great folks and have great senses of humor..

This is Kari. She drops in a gets her morning cup of coffee and visits for a while. She works for the towns newspaper.

Ya'll should know Greg by now. He is one of our retired coworkers who landed a job at Harley running the Rider's Edge Program. See this link: http://redriverharley-davidson.com/Default.asp

As we get ready to leave, I take a pic of our three bikes. It was 37 degrees this morning when I met David at the gas station & we weren't dressed for it. We lost body parts and froze... David's bike on the left, mine in the middle and Greg is on his Harley showing it to a passerby.

David's Goldwing, my Vulcan (Ms Clone) & Greg's Ultra Classic

Last picture of the breakfast was of Jerry (Pappy) & Norman..Cya next week guys!!

We then went to the Red River Harley Davidson Dealership to get with Greg and the first one we see, is one of the hard working sales persons, Samantha.

Inside Greg's office, which is literally destroyed because they are adding an office onto his, Greg shows us the flyer.

Here is what it says and you are invited to attend if you're in the area. You may want to click the pic for a close up. If that don't work, read below:

This is Jennie with her haircut.

Wendi walked up as we were talking to Jennie, and the last pic I took of Wendi was blurred.. So...Here's Wendi. She is 4'10"

I really like that blue/silver Screamin' Eagle

A side view of the 09 Harley Screamin' Eagle..

The 09 Harley's are in and they have a bunch of them!

PGR MISSION 11-11-08

Today, Tuesday, 11-11-08, was Veteran's Day. I would like to say Happy Veteran's day to my fellow Vets and Job Well Done! Today, we also laid to rest, Lupe Ozuna, a Navy Vietnam Vet. The PGR, (PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS..http://www.patriotguard.org/), was invited to the funeral by the family and below are the pictures of the days' events. Scroll down to view this PGR Mission and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE PICTURE LARGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE...

We had an excellent turnout and this is Ray & Mike in the parking lot of the church

We moved all the motorcycles to Homes & Marconi, to leave room for the cars in the church parking lot. Here are some of the bikes and members milling around prior to setting up the Flag Line of Honor

Another view of the bikes parked on Marconi, across from the Church. The church was: Our Lady Of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

A view of the Flag Line of Honor as seen from the corner

A view of the Honor Line looking West

The church sits at the corner of Homes & Marconi

A view of the Honor Line looking back to the East, in front of the church

This is Ted & Mike, (PGR Road Captain), and Louis. Mr. Ozuna, the deceased, was Louis's Cousin..

The Honor Line in front of the Church

Here is Louis. The only time I see Louis is at the PGR Meet & Greets or on a PGR Mission. For all of you that are familiar with this blog, Louis is the brother in law to Doug, who rides the Blue/Black Harley Ultra Classic.

Another pic of Ted & Louis in front of the church.

The Honor line in front of the Church. That is David in the shirt with his leather unzipped and Bud to his right

The line, picture taken from the line, to my left

This is Melin. She had a slight mishap (not motorcycle related) and broke up her right hand. It e looked like it hurt, even bandaged.. That is the fabled Doug to my immediate left

The view from the line as the family enters Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Wichita Falls, Texas

These are our Regional Road Captains & their son, Barbara, Mike & PJ . Louis is to their left . On the PGR Missions, the Road Captains wear the maroon caps and members the blue cap, if they have one.

A view to the South of the line as it curves around the corner to the North

Another picture from the Line as the family enters the church

The bikes line Homes St. as we head towards them to head out to the Cemetery

These two bikes belong to Nubbin & Angela. They will stay here and escort the hearse & family car to the Cemetery after the service is over, along with Gary, Joe & Louis..Gary & Louis rode drag and were Road Guard. They all did a GREAT job.

This is Brenda & Chief. They are working on a PGR website in Oklahoma. PGR Missions aren't just for local members. PGR members travel many miles to attend the missions. That is the dedication level of most PGR members. The PGR was born out of necessity and I am very proud to be a member of this organization

This is Nubbin & his wife, Angela. They escorted the hearse & family car to the Cemetery. They are some really great folks..

My CRS just kicked in and I THINK this is Katie. If not, please email me & I will fix it...I met a bunch of new folks today and I am playing heck trying to remember you all, even if I wrote your name down.

This is the front of Dubbin's Harley. I saw the Anchor & Globe emblem and had to take a pic of it...

Here is a close up of it.. Semper fi See the following links for info on the USMC and the Globe & Anchor emblem. (http://www.marines.mil/Pages/DefaultPage.aspx0 and (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle,_Globe,_and_Anchor)

Here we are saddled up and ready to go..

Another of the bikes & PGR members waiting to leave for the cemetery

Here is a picture of Grady & David..We all used to work together on quite a few calls. He is one of the local M.E.'s (Medical Examiner)

Here is Barbara heading to her bike

Another view as we get ready to go..

This is Bud. We worked together for years...He has a great sense of humor and is fun to be around

Here are Doug, Brenda & Chief right before we headed out

The last picture of the Church itself before we left. I had to take this to make sure I spelled Guadalupe right

We leave the Church and head across town to the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Here we are Westbound on Kell (US 82)

A view to the rear as we continue westbound down Kell Blvd.

Another view to the rear as we go down Kell towards the cemetery. That's David on the white bike behind me

We turned North on Wenonah and this is the view of the riders behind me..

The view in front of me as we head North down Wenonah

We get to The Sacred Heart Cemetary, park the bikes and then head to Mike & Barbara. Mike has the furled flags we use, in the bed of his pickup

This is Ted & me.. Ted's daughter, Vicki, lives in Ft. Collins Colorado and she is a frequent viewer of the blog, so, just so she can keep an eye on her Dad, I get pics of him at most of the events we attend and then post his pics on the post. Ted told me today that Vicki's coming down here to Wichita Falls in about two weeks. So, you'll all get to meet Vicki on an upcoming post, because Tede & Inez are going to introduce me to her and I will get pics on the post of her & her mom & dad...Drive safe heading down here Vicki!!

Here is a picture of Ted. I met him earlier this year or at the end of last year on a PGR Mission. He & Inez (his wife) are great people and I enjoy riding with him

Ted & me.. Bud was taking the pictures and I gave him some slightly erroneous info on the operation of the camera...Thats why the three pics of Ted & me

Ted & John...Take three!!

There was a Navy Honor Guard there at the Cemetary. This is Russell & Gordon. They folded the flag on the casket and presented it to Mrs. Ozuna

This is Russell, Paul & Gordon.Paul blew TAPS on the bugle at the conclusion of the graveside service. These three sailors did a very professional job, were professional in bearing and actions and a credit to the U.S. Navy. They are to be commended for a job well done!! Thank you, Russell, Paul & Gordon for all that you do in service to our country and in keeping us, the citizens, safe and out of harm's way... For more on the US Navy, click this link: (http://www.navy.mil/swf/index.asp)

The line at the cemetary

The line at the cemetary prior to the hearse & family arrival

This is Cecil, our other PGR Regional Road Captain

A view of the line at the cemetary and the last picture I took at the cemetary.

Following the funeral, several of us went to the Parkway Grill to eat. Went we arrived we saw this..A motorcycle officer had pulled a lady over and was giving her a ticket. So, I went and got a picture of one of the new police Harley's with the 110 cu in Screamin' Eagle engines

While the officer was writing out the citation, David took this as a photo op and sat on the officers bike

Here is the Officer, Chris, giving his victim, Kim, a citation. I talked to Kim after Chris had left and she was in very good spirits. I even told her I had it recorded and she could view it on the post. She got to smiling and I gave her one of the NTB cards...Thanks Kim for being cordial and friendly especially after your terrifying ordeal with Officer Chris... :)

Here is Officer Chris and his Police Motorcycle. These guys are lucky. When I was a motorcycle officer, for three years, back in the 80's, we had to ride the Kawasaki KZ1000's and the powers that be thought Harley's sucked..Now they have new leadership. Hence, the Harley's...

Some of the PGR members that went to the Parkway Grill. This s Moe..

This is Moe & her husband Dennis..

This is Kirby & Jody..

This is Ashley & her mom, Melin..Melin, you'll remember, is the one with the broken right hand
This will conclude this post. I would like to thank the following PGR members for being there today and pass on a Mission Accomplished!! PGR folks attending today's mission that I got names of are: Gary, Louis Joe, David, Grady,Ray, Bud, Mike, Ted, JB, Angela, Mark,Katie, Bob, Sparkchaser, Jody, Kirby, Dennis, Moe, Ashley, Brenda, Chief, Mike & Barbara, PJ, Cecil, Doug, Melin & Tex, Russel, Paul, Gordon. If you were there and I didn't get your name or I got it and it is one of the ones I wrote down and can't read (getting old sucks!!), please email me with your info & I will edit it in..
I enjoyed meeting a bunch of new people today and I enjoyed riding with them, even under the circumstances that brought us together. But it is ALWAYS good to ride with fellow PGR members and other motorcycle folks, no matter what the reason. Scroll down for more rides, events & posts and be sure to click the "older posts" link at the bottom of EACH page for more posts back to January 08. Until the next ride/post, ya'll be careful out there ride safe & keep the rubber on the road..........................JOHN

Kurt & Shirley Order Their 09 Harley Trike 11-6-08

On Saturday, 11-1-08. we got an e-mail from Uncle Kurt & Aunt Shirley and they had just left the Harley Dealership in Joplin Mo and they ordered their 09 Harley trike. They are next on the list and the dealership told them it would arrive sometime in April 09. Also, while there, the people who ordered the trike at the dealership, arrived to pick up their Harley Trike. They were kind enough to give Uncle Kurt & Aunt Shrley a quick ride. Scroll down and check them out on the trike and REMEMBER: IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE ICTURE BIGGER, JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE...

The owner of the new Harley trike is driving and Aunt Shirley in the passenger. Uncle Kurt says she fell in love with the bike when she saw it but now that she has been taken for a spin, she really can't wait to get it...

That's Uncle Kurt riding passenger. He was originally looking for a two wheeler, but like he said to me the other day, he is 80,years old and the bikes are heavy and doesn't want to mess his knees up in case the bike should fall over..He doesn't have to worry about that now...

And here he is on the trike with Aunt Shirley...You know, they fit perfectly on that bike and he destroys the myth about sittin' around and growing old.. Looks to me like he is growing young again. Plus the fact I don't know of a time (other than hospital stays) when he has ever just sat around & did nothing. He always has something going on and stays on the go. Same for Aunt Shirley..

Here he is sitting on that Trike in the shop when it first came in..Note the protective paper still on the faring & lowers...

That will close this post. I can't wait until he gets it and I am riding up to Joplin Missouri (about 6 1/2 hrs North of here) and go riding some with him & Shirley..
